Why don't my streams match my earnings?

Your stream counts and your earnings come from different reports on different schedules, so they rarely line up for the same days. Streams are reported daily, a few days behind. Earnings come from monthly royalty statements, usually a month or two after the streams they pay for.

The two clocks

Streams

Earnings

Where you see them

Analytics (Overview, Consumption, Engagement, Geography)

Analytics → Earnings and Money

How often

Daily

Monthly, by statement

How far behind

A few days

A month or two after the streams

So the streams you see this month are usually paid on a later statement. When you compare, match a statement month with the streams from the period it covers, not with this week's chart.

The Earnings tab says which statement month it's "reported through".

Why the totals differ even for the same period

  • Not every play is paid. Plays that stop before 30 seconds aren't paid streams. Analytics shows them as Sub-30s.
  • Each play pays a different amount. What a stream earns depends on the store, the listener's country and whether they're on a free or paid plan. Consumption → Monetization shows the mix when stores report it, and Earnings shows your average rate per 1,000 streams.
  • Stores filter their own counts. Streams are counted after the platforms' own fraud filtering.
  • Your statement shows your share. Statements already have platform fees, the label's share and royalty splits applied. "Your earnings" is what's left for you.
  • Advances are recovered first. If your release has an advance or costs to recoup, the release's Recoupment card shows how much of your share goes toward it.
  • Some money is still pending. Earnings paid in another currency show as Pending on the Money page until the payment clears and the final rate is locked in.
  • Spotify for Artists counts differently. The Spotify tab shows Spotify's own counts, which won't match store reports. Your earnings are based on store reports.
  • Video use is paid differently. UGC views count views of videos using your music. They're paid by the platforms under their own rules, not like streams.

Check what you were paid for a track

  1. Go to Money.
  2. Under Earnings by Statement, download the statement for the month.
  3. Open the Detailed sheet. Each row shows the track, store, territory, units, store revenue, rate per unit and your earnings.

Common questions

My streams went up but my earnings didn't

The new streams are probably not on a finalized statement yet. Check again after the next one or two statements.

My earnings show a store that isn't in my analytics

Not every store sends daily stream data. A store that only reports on statements appears in Earnings and in your statements, but not in the daily charts.

Can you tell me exactly how much a stream pays?

No fixed rate exists. It changes by store, country, plan type and month. Your statements show the actual rate per unit you received.
