# Recoupment on a project

If a release has an advance or recoupable marketing spend, the project's **Recoupment** tab shows how much has to be made back, how much has been made back from the release's earnings so far, and how much is left.

## Open the Recoupment tab

1. Open **Projects** and click the release.
2. Click the **Recoupment** tab.

The tab only appears on your own releases, not on songs you track with a Spotify link. If nothing on the release is recoupable, it says "Nothing to recoup".

## What the numbers mean

| Number | What it means |
|---|---|
| **To recoup** | The total that has to be made back: the advance, if it's recoupable, plus approved marketing costs marked as recoupable. If your agreement sets a cap, the total stops at the cap. |
| **Recouped** | How much of that total has been made back so far. It shows "Fully recouped" when nothing is left. |
| **Recouped %** | Recouped as a share of the total. |
| **Marketing spent** | All approved marketing costs on the release, recoupable or not. |

**Progress** shows the same thing as a bar, for example "$1,290 of $3,150 recouped from this release's earnings."

**Where the marketing went** breaks the marketing spend down by category, such as marketing, production or creative.

|| **Marketing spent** and **Where the marketing went** only appear when the label has chosen to share the expense details on the release. The recoupment numbers always show when there's something to recoup.

## How recoupment works

Recoupment is the label making back what it put into a release before the artist is paid their share of that money.

* The amount comes out of the release's own earnings, statement by statement. Each time a new statement is processed, **Recouped** goes up.
* Only costs marked as recoupable count. Costs that aren't recoupable are listed under **Marketing spent** but never taken from earnings.
* How the amount is taken, how long recoupment runs and any cap are set in the release agreement. Your agreement is the reference for your release.

When **Recouped** reaches **To recoup**, the release is fully recouped and earnings are shared as normal.

## Where the numbers come from

* The advance and the recoupable costs come from the release's deal terms and its approved expenses in AMM Distro.
* The recouped amount comes from the release's processed statements. Streams that haven't been reported on a statement yet don't count.

That's why **Recouped** moves when a new statement arrives, not every day. To see statements and earnings, open **Money** (or **Earnings**, depending on your account) in AMM Distro.

## Common questions

### Why does the tab say "Nothing to recoup"?

There's no advance or recoupable marketing spend recorded on the release. If you expected one, contact us.

### I have an advance, but Recouped is still zero.

The release's earnings haven't appeared on a processed statement yet. Recoupment starts with the first statement that includes the release.

### Can I share recoupment with someone outside the account?

Not with a share link. The campaign status page can show the campaign budget, but not recoupment. See "Share campaign status with your team".

### A number looks wrong.

Send us a message from the chat on this page, or email team@ammdistro.com. Include the release name.
